Hello, my name is Renato Korzinek and I have been building fpv quads for about two years now. Fpv racing is an emerging sport and hobby that involves the building and flying of small (130mm-300mm frame sizes and 3inch-7inch propeller sizes) drones. The drones are flown using a radio (a controller) that communicates to the drone, controlling what the drone does. The reason why this hobby is called Fpv (first person view) is because pilots use fpv goggles that are connected to the same video channel as the drone's onboard camera to view where the drone is flying. With this, the experience becomes very immersive and simulating. Pilots fly with special gear to provide long range connections or fast and responsive racing setups. The racing aspect of the sport can now be seen on ESPN2 during the Drone Racing League season. The reason why I chose to focus my studies on Plastics and Eel Grass is because in Manchester by the Sea, MA, there is an occurring issue with regards to the natural Eelgrass habitat at Sand Dollar Cove, which provides a natural sanctuary for baby animals. The problem at hand is that in the summer, boaters anchor in Sand Dollar Cove to relax and barbecue. The heavy chains that are used for the anchor lines are dragging around the seabed with the rise and fall of the tides, which is damaging the Eel Grass Habitat. The destination has been gaining popularity in recent years which is escalating the issue. To address this, working with Seaside Sustainability, a non-profit organization run by Eric Magers, I am building a drone which will be capable of flying over the habitat and will be used monitor the long term effects of the issue. The drone will need to be very efficient and have a strong signal connection so it can be flown over the ocean without worry of losing the drone. The drone will also be used to scan and locate macro-plastics within local waterways, specifically in the Essex River Bay Area.
