What's up? Mass Clean Energy Center Field Trip!
Club Meetings are currently on hold for the current school year - we plan to return to our usual activities in SY23-24.
We ARE however, running occasional field trips - check the What's Up Now? above for more info and forms.
- Field Trip to Mass Clean Energy Center on Wednesday 9/20/23. MECC operates the largest wind turbine testing facility in the United States, and is at the cutting edge of the green energy revolution. Plus, they're great folks to talk to about engineering, construction and what the future looks like.
- We will leave St. John's by bus at 130pm and return by 5pm. There are two permission forms for this field trip, because they are very serious about protecting the intellectual property on site, as well as the well-being of visitors. The testing facility is quite safe, but not an OK place to mess around. If you'd like to go please do three things:
- Fill out the SJP Permission Form
- Fill out the Mass CEC Permission Form - this will call for your signature, as well as your parent or guardian.
- Please return both forms to Mr. Smith (in person in K220 or by email at [email protected]) The trip is first come, first served, and max capacity is 12 students.

- Student research projects - they can be short ones or long ones, but they're always at the center of what we do.
- We visit area science facilities - bio-tech companies, pharmaceuticals, green technology startups and established physical research companies. Every visit is a great learning experience for all of us.
- We do just-for-fun competitions, like paper airplanes and water bottle rockets. We also compete in the Greater Boston Physics Olympics.
- We help to facilitate student internships, and try to connect what students learn from partner companies with our school's 6-12 science curriculum. So whether you're serious about science, just think it's fun, or are somewhere in the middle, you're welcome here!
